Tom Toothaker, PT, DPT
As the Director for Orthopaedic & Spine Center’s Physical Therapy Clinic, I am delighted to remind you that October has been designated as National Physical Therapy Month! OSC will be participating in this special event, dedicated to recognizing the professional physical therapists, physical therapists’ assistants, technicians, support staff and administrative team that work to improve the health and wellbeing of patients around the world, every day, in settings as varied as hospitals, physician offices, free-standing clinics, nursing homes, patient homes, etc. Wherever patients are, a Physical Therapist will go there to support them and provide treatment.
The theme of October 2021’s program is Let’s Make It a Moving Experience, which is dedicated to the role that PTs and PTAs have in getting people moving in the United States alone. A quote from the APTA website illustrates exactly how important that is: “Inadequate physical activity results in an added $117 billion in health care costs in the U.S. and leads to reduced quality of life for millions of Americans. As we struggle to address a global pandemic, it’s more important than ever to encourage movement to help people manage pain and other chronic conditions, recover from injuries, and reduce the risk of future injury and chronic disease.” That is a startling statistic, and one that we cannot afford to ignore.
The team at OSC Physical Therapy will be celebrating this month with special giveaways for our patients, surprise treats and our usual personalized patient care. We will be featuring special articles, exercise demonstration videos and our typical PT shenanigans on our Facebook page, so be on the lookout for those.
We hope you will join us in our celebration! We’re currently in the process of updating our clinic and creating more space to better serve our community. If you’ve been our patient and had a great experience with us, please tell a friend or share your testimonial for publication.
